Another Successful Rebuilding Together with Christmas in April Project

ROXBURY, Mass. -- On Saturday, April 28, 2001, approximately 90 volunteers on behalf of Rebuilding Together with Christmas in April, converged at 80 Walnut Park in Roxbury to repair and renovate the home of Ms. Delphine Walker.

Richard White Sons led the volunteer home repair effort. Months of preparation culminated in an all-out, one-day undertaking. In the months leading up to that day, the site was selected, sponsors, house captains and house superintendents were recruited, and volunteers were organized. The final product of these efforts -- a gift of renovation and renewal -- was achieved through the hard work of all the volunteers.

Steve Tocci and Ken White of Newton-based Richard White Sons acted as House Superintendent and House Captain, respectively. This is their third consecutive year planning and organizing CIA projects in the Boston area.

Numerous skilled and semi-skilled volunteer employees and friends of Richard White Sons contributed to the renovations of Ms. Walker's home that included: the construction of a new front porch; 18 replacement windows; exterior siding and roofing repairs; interior plaster repairs; electrical and plumbing repairs; yard clean-up; and painting of the entire exterior of the house.

Funding for material purchases were generously provided by the site sponsor, Fidelity Investments of Boston. In addition, Fidelity provided over 40 hard working volunteers and the day's lunches and refreshments for all participants.

Other firms that contributed essential man and woman-power included CBT/Childs, Bertman, Tseckares Architects of Boston and Dufresne-Henry Consulting Engineers of Westford, MA.

Rebuilding Together with Christmas in April is a nationwide, community-based program that helps low-income, elderly, and physically challenged people live in warmth and safety through volunteer repair and renovation of their homes, community centers, and neighborhoods.
