Suffolk University, Nathan R. Miller Residence Hall
Boston, MA
Suffolk's largest residence hall at 345 beds is situated on a narrow one-way street in Boston's historic Beacon Hill neighborhood. The 21-story building boasts incredible views of the neighborhood and is inches away from the adjacent buildings.
With zero space to allow for construction storage, all materials were carefully choreographed for "just-in-time" deliveries through the third floor dining area in order to feed the entire project.
While excavation was underway, it was discovered that the adjacent building had a shallow foundation, which then required a significant change, accomplished "on the fly", to use secant concrete piles for the building's foundation.
The building contains a full height glass atrium, a full height glass staircase, and precast concrete facade on the street side.
